Stump Rat Brewing Company was founded by Simon and Natasha with one simple ambition, to brew beer worth coming back for.
We believe great beer doesn't need gimmicks. It needs balance, character, consistency and attention to detail. Every recipe, every brew and every release is guided by that philosophy.
While we're proud to brew in Norfolk, we're even prouder of how they're brewed. Thoughtful brewing, quality ingredients and a belief that every release should be worth trying.
Simon
Simon is a former British Army mechanical engineer who trained as a brewer in the Republic of Ireland after leaving the forces. He later returned to university as a mature student and is now a Chartered Geoscientist specialising in water quality.
Water is the single largest ingredient in beer, and Simon's professional expertise plays a fundamental role in every Stump Rat brew using the same scientific approach that underpins his career is applied throughout the brewery every day.
Combined with the influence of time spent brewing in Ireland, where balance, drinkability and restraint are deeply valued, those experiences continue to shape the beers we brew today.
Natasha
Natasha's background in midwifery brings a calm, people-first approach to Stump Rat.
Whether she's delivering beer, pouring pints at festivals, behind the bar or speaking to customers, Natasha believes great breweries are built on relationships as much as great beer. She drives much of what takes Stump Rat beyond the brewhouse, building connections that sit at the heart of everything we do.
What shaped Stump Rat
Married for more than twenty years, we've spent much of that time travelling together, seeking out great beer, memorable food and the places that do both exceptionally well.
From small independent breweries to world-renowned taprooms, we've always been drawn to businesses that quietly obsess over quality rather than chasing trends. Those experiences have shaped the brewery we're building today.
We're not interested in brewing the loudest beer. We set out to brew beers people genuinely want to come back to.

Operating a modern 15 hL brewery in Norfolk, we brew a range of ales, lagers and stouts with one simple philosophy.
Brew with intent. Focus on what matters. Never take shortcuts.
Every recipe begins with carefully selected ingredients and thoughtfully designed water profiles before moving through a brewing process built around precision and consistency. We believe that every stage matters, because every stage influences the beer that ends up in your glass.
From crisp, refreshing lagers to hop-forward pale ales and rich stouts, every release is brewed to be balance, full of character and, above all, enjoyable to drink.

We're still at the beginning of our journey.
As our brewery grows and our taproom opens it's doors, our ambition remains exactly the same as it was on day one, to brew beers we're proud to pour, create a place we're proud to welcome people into, and a brewery that earns it's reputation one pint at a time.
